Crossing border into Guatemala

Walked around the town of Flores, Guatemala then took a boat to Hotel Bahia Taitza in San Jose on the shores of Lake Peten Itza for lunch.

Actun Tunichil Muknal Cave

We went with Mayawalk to the Actun Tunichil Muknal cave.  It's a 45 minute walk thru the jungle and three river crossings to get to the entrance of the cave.  Then it's a short swim into the cave.  The water is running out of the cave and varies in water levels between ankle to waist deep. 

Caves Branch Tubing

We went with Mayawalk Tours to Caves Branch to go tubing.

Belize Zoo

We stopped at the Belize Zoo which contained indigenous animals, many rescues.  I've never heard howler monkeys before, they reminded me of the animal-thing in Lost. 

Belize City

Joined Intrepid tour group in Belize City. The city is known for being very dangerous; I wouldn't want to walk around by myself.  There was a lot of trash everywhere.  I don't think the Belizians understand that Styrofoam and plastic doesn't break down.  The whole city could use a coat of paint and a city-wide clean-up.  It's a shame since it's on the coast and has the potential to be very beautiful. Tour group included: myself and friend Angie, 1 German, and the remaining 6 were Canadian.  Our tour guide, Emilio, was Guatemalan.

San Pedro, Ambergris Caye

Landed in Belize City, took a water taxi and stayed at the Sunbreeze hotel in San Pedro and took a quick dip in the pool.  Dinner at The Reef Restaurant.  The next morning, enjoyed a pedicure outside at Ramon's Village Resort.
